How To Protect Yourself Against Identity Theft
My inner self is the model of self-restraint and willpower-two things my actual self does not possess. My inner self would never drink, smoke cigarettes, and eat pizza for dinner. I spend hours reading magazines like Self and Shape, telling myself that this month I will achieve “My Best Body Ever In Only 4 Weeks!”. My real self wakes up, drinks coffee, then begins making excuses for why I can’t work out. My imaginary self wakes up every morning and works out first thing, then takes the dogs on a five-mile jog. My inner self is a yoga-practicing, mountain-climbing, vegetarian, vitamin-taking, soymilk-drinking, super healthy individual. A yoga mat collecting dust in the corner, the stacks of unopened vegetarian cookbooks, the gym bag lying next to the door. I started to look around and realized that symbols of my double life were everywhere.
The bottles of multivitamins, probiotics, and alfalfa seeds waiting to be sprouted stared back at me. This morning I was making a cup of coffee in my kitchen when I looked at the top of my microwave to see my secret life staring back at me. As crazy as it seems, I have been quite oblivious to this secret identity.
